What is VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies)?

VISUAL THINKING STRATEGIES is a research-based approach to looking at art that improves critical thinking, communication, problem solving and observational skills.  Developed in the U.S. by psychologist Abigail Housen and art educator Philip Yenawine, VTS has traditionally been used in the classroom (from kindergarten to grade 12) as an innovative tool to help students develop these skills.  For more detailed information and research on VTS please follow this link.  ”The Art of Looking” is on the cutting edge of something new and innovative:  we are using the VTS approach to art viewing as a VEHICLE for honing and enhancing visual literacy, collaborative communication, team-building and critical thinking for groups within the corporate sector, in heath and social service related fields, and as a tool for use in counselling and therapy.
